Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - June 2007

June wasn't very favourable to the video meteor observers. As in May, it was
often rainy and overcasted. However, some observers were more lucky than
others. For Joerg Strunk, Bob Lunsford and Stephen Evans, it was one of the
worst months in their observation series. Bernd Brinkmann, on the other hand,
managed to collect 26 observing nights, and Sirko Molau as well as Javor Kac
passed the 20 observing nights mark as well. That is even more amazing given
the fact, that Bernd and Joerg observe in a double-station setup at a distance
of little more than 50 km. For the second time in a row, we missed one
observing night, but the data of Remo1 in Ketzuer is still missing. Maybe at
least this camera enjoyed a few cloud gaps on June 29/30?
With respect to the hardware, there have been some changes in Slovenia. The
camera SRAKA of Mihaela Triglav resumed operation in mid-June, and Javor Kac
started to operate a new camera dubbed ORION1. In addition, his other camera
METKA was replaced by a new Mintron video module with the ExView HAD chip,
which significantly increased the meteor number compared to his old module with
the SuperHAD chip.
Once more it was fascinating, how strong the meteor rate may change within a
couple of days. Whereas in mid-January you get the subjective impression, that
the meteor rate halves within a few days, it seems to double similarly
abrupt in mid June (just before or at the solstitium).
