Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - July 2006

July was in many respects a special month.
On the one hand this was thanks to an amazing number of 22 meteor cameras that
were operated by 15 observers from 8 countries. The lead took once more Joerg
Strunk, who operated four Mintron cameras alone.
On the other hand, the hot Summer weather persisted trough all of July in
central Europe. For the second time after August 2003, one observer alone
(Sirko Molau) managed to recorded meteors in every single night. Joerg Strunk
missed only a single night, and our Slovenian observers Mihaela Triglav and
Javor Kac obtained also well above 20 observing nights. So it comes as no
surprise, that despite the short summer nights the camera network yielded more
than 1300 observing hours and 6500 meteors.
Last but not least the reason might have been, that I offered last month a
bottle of champagne for the 200000th entry in the video meteor archive.
Or why did we have that many observers in July? :-) Since I got only the
summaries from some observers I cannot tell yet who the lucky winner is. All I
can say so far is that "the" meteor was recorded in the evening of July 22.
