Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - March 2006 ==================================================== One the first glimpse, the statistics of March looks quite smooth. Observations seem to be "scattered" all over the observers and observing nights, and there are no "dark" columns, i.e. nights with clear skies at most sites. That pictures is somewhat misleading, though. Overall, the weather has been quite confortable such that five of the observers managed to obtain between 18 and 20 observing nights. One or the other may ask now: Why 20, when there is no camera with more than 19 nights? The solution is quite simple: My camera Mincam1 was operated in 19 nights. The second camera AVIS2 observed in parallel (different direction) in many nights, and on March 25 it could use a cloud gap that gave no meteor detection for Mincam1. That makes up for the 20th night. Beside those almost 2000 meteors that could be recorded, March presented another highlight to the IMO camera network: With Bob Lunsford, we got an observer outside Europe for the first time since November 2003, and the first American video observer at all! Bob is operating his intensified camera from Chula Vista / California and he will be a valuable extention to the network, since he covers times when there is bright daylight in Europe. Furthermore, he is able to observe the southern meteor showers already quite well at his site 32 deg northern latitude. 1.
