Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - November 2005

In November, the favourable high pressure weather situation of September and
October further continued in Germany. Unfortunately, it could not be used at
all sites. In southern Germany, strong fog developed as often at this time of
year, and only higher areas enjoyed blue skies. In the second half of November,
the picture changed: The weather became instable, first snow fell and skies
were almost always covered. Whereas in nothern and western Germany the
observing conditions were poor, skies cleared almost every night for a few
minutes to hours in the south. Thus, the overall observing time was quite
remarkable, even though not a single night was fully clear. In fact, in the
end we obtained more observing hours and meteor records than in any November
before.
Towards the middle of November, the meteor rate increased and a number of bright
meteors with persistent trains could be observed thanks to the Leonids, which
remained otherwise unspectacular in the moonlit skies. Also with respect to
other
meteor showers, November did not yield further highlights.
