Results of the IMO Video Meteor Network - March 2004

Exactly five years ago, in March 1999, the AKM video meteor network was created
by the installation of a first observing station in Aachen, Germany. By the
end of the same year, two observers operated their cameras in every clear
night, and another six observed sporadically. In the following yearss, the
camera network further developed. Last year, there were already eight regular
observers and seven more who operated their cameras in selected nights.
However, the expansion was not limited to Germany. Today there are also
observers in other European countries and in Australia who contribute to the
camera network. So it is just a logical step to rename the network to IMO
Video Meteor Network. Let's hope that it will further grow and prosper in
the years to come.
In the last month, the weather improved at least slightly. Especially at the
mid and end of March there were longer spells of clear skies. Two observer even
managed to get 20 observing nights again. Still, the number of recorded meteors
stayed at the low January and February level. In March 2003 we recorded more
than twice as many meteors!
All we can do is waiting for the Summer with it's meteor-rich nights...
