Results of the AKM Video Meteor Network - July 2003 =================================================== I'm running out of superlatives! In June I reported that one central European observer alone managed to obtain 23 observing nights, and already in July I broke this record with 24 observing nights. Since I was two days away, it could have been even 25 or 26 nights. Even our Australian observer obtained such a result only once before. Weather in Germany was indeed Australian-like: For weeks we enjoyed high season Summer weather, temperatures beyond 30 deg centigrade and clear skies. It was a joy for all those on vacation, but all others were happy if they could spend the time in some air-conditioned room. Because of the holidays, a number of observers took a break for a couple of days. In addition, some observations have not been reported yet, so that the statistics of July with more than 550 hours of effective observing time and more than 2700 meteors may still improve. Operating two video cameras seems to become trendy :-). Joerg Strunk has started to operate two Mintron camera in July, after I had begun regular observations with a second camera the month before. Interestingly, Joerg recorded more meteors with the 8mm Computar lens than with the 6mm lens which was introduced recently (both f/0.8). A more detailled analysis of this effect is still to be done. On Teneriffe, Orlando Benitez-Sanchez resumed video meteor observation by the end of July, whereas in Finland the Summer break is not yet over. 1.
