Results of the AKM Video Meteor Network - May 2002

May was not very fruitful for the German AKM video observers. Short nights
and poor skies often prevented observations, and even when it cleared here
or there it was often for a few hours only. The nights around May 10 were
of special interest for us, as they promised new data about the minor shower
of the eta Lyrids. Only a few useful observations could be made in these
nights, but at least in my own records there are one or two eta-Lyrids
each night. More conclusive studies have to wait until I received the
observations from all other observers.
For the first nights of May we got observational data collected during
the eta Auqarid campaigns at Ondrejov and Kunzak, Czech Republic. Furthermore
our observer at the Canaries has been successful again, after regular
observations had been impossible there for a long time due to unusually poor
weather.
Down under, Steve Quirk managed to obtained a great observing series in the
first part of May. With his almost 200 hours of observing time he was not to
beat by anyone else. In addition, despite unfavourable weather we finally
got the first complete observing series: In every night there was at least
one camera in operation! Even in the best months there have always one or
more nights been missing so far.
